Groups & Seminars
In group therapy approximately 6-10 individuals meet face-to-face with a trained group therapist. During group therapy, people begin to see that they are not alone and that there is hope and help. It is comforting to hear that other people have a similar difficulty, and may be able to share their experience. Group therapy is also educational providing proven strategies and skills and is a good adjunct to individual therapy.
All our group facilitators are fully registered psychologists.
Most groups attract Medicare rebates. Click here for more information.
Anger management and behaviour change for men
This group is aimed at men who are finding it difficult to control anger and whose quality of life is being affected. This may mean that relationships are breaking down, that there are problems in the workplace or that there are problems with authority. Uncontrolled anger can ruin people’s lives, leading to broken families, substance abuse, financial problems, loss, career dissatisfaction, even the courts or prison. Uncontrolled anger can trigger family violence. Men often understand this too late either when restraining orders are issued or families have broken down. This program is designed to help men to better understand the nature of anger and will provide concrete tools to regulate their emotions.
12 x 120 mins sessions.
Owning your anger: a group for women struggling with difficult emotions
Anger is a normal emotion that is a signal to us that something is not okay. Where anger is concerned, it is not the emotion that is problematic but rather the expression of the emotion that can get us into trouble. Women struggling to manage this particular emotion often feel ostracized and misunderstood by their friends and families. This group helps women come to terms with the origins of their anger while also finding better ways of expressing their anger so they can bridge the communication gap between themselves and those around them.
6 x 150 mins sessions. MIn 6 people, max 10.
Start Dates for 2010: Mon July 19th; Mon Oct 4th. 5.30-8pm.

Freedom from anxiety.
Anxiety is a serious problem and affects up to 15% of the total population. Anxiety has also been linked to depression and is a symptom of stress. People can get anxious in different ways, for example: in social situations; experiencing overwhelming fears and emotions; panic attacks or uncontrollable irrational thinking.
In this group we help people understand that this is not a disease over which they have no control but an aspect of their body and mind that they can learn both to understand and manage. The treatment program uses evidence-based techniques such as mindfulness and cognitive behavioural therapy to master the symptoms of anxiety and to find better ways of coping. This approach has excellent success with most anxiety. The program will attract Medicare rebates if you have been referred by your doctor. Please contact us to discuss.
