What to expect:

Appointments with your psychologist will generally last one hour. During your first appointment you will explain your current concern from your perspective and get to know your therapist. What we have found is that the best therapy occurs when a therapist and client can establish a good, trusting and strong relationship.

Throughout this process you will always be treated with respect. Your psychologist will discuss and negotiate your treatment plan and number of sessions with you to help you make changes to improve your wellbeing and enhance your life in the most effective way.

We adhere to a practice that is bound by strong ethics and a belief that everyone has the power within themselves to make a difference.

Appointments/fees/rebates:

Please feel free to contact us to discuss your needs. We answer messages within 24 hours so please leave one if we are unavailable to answer immediately.

We can arrange an appointment within a week. After hours and Saturday appointments are available.
Our sessions are Medicare rebatable with a doctor’s mental health care plan.

Most counselling and group sessions are Medicare rebatable when you have a referral from your GP. To get a referral, you need to make an appointment with your GP to complete a Mental Health Plan. With this referral you will be entitled to a Medicare rebate on 12 counselling sessions and 12 group sessions within a calendar year.

You must have this referral prior to your first counselling appointment to be eligible for a Medicare rebate. After paying for your appointment you can take your receipt to Medicare for a rebate. If you do some group work you do not require an additional referral, but you will require one if you don’t already have one for individual counselling.

All counsellors at East Melbourne Psychology are registered with the Victorian Registration Board and have Medicare provider numbers.

If you do not want to get a GP referral then you may still be eligible for a rebate from your private health insurer. Couples therapy is not Medicare rebatable but you will receive a rebate for couple’s therapy from your private health insurer.

We are also covered by all the major private insurers. Workcover and Transport Accident Commission Approved.

Our fees are reasonable and we provide discounts for health care card holders. Bulk billing is available under some circumstances. Please discuss these issues with your therapist.
